There’s something thrilling about New Year’s Day. The start of a new year brings with it hope, the promise of a new start, and the reminder that we can choose to wipe the slate clean and become better versions of ourselves whenever we choose.

January 1st is the day that people traditionally decide on new ways of being. You may promise yourself a healthier lifestyle, a more disciplined way of conducting your life, a step toward greater self confidence and self awareness, or the discovery of a new community. The martial arts practice can put you on a path to achieving these goals, and many more.
Perhaps you’re already a practitioner of martial arts, but, given the date, want to set new goals for yourself. Set a goal to try a new style of martial arts, recommit yourself to the discipline by practicing more often, strive to receive the next belt, or work toward becoming an instructor.

At United Martial Arts Center we are committed to helping you take your first steps toward discovering Martial Arts or helping you take your practice further, We welcome all new members to come in to try a free class. Our instructors will take you step by step through several Martial Arts basics and self-defense techniques to help you evaluate and determine which of our Martial Art programs is right for you. Best of all, you don’t need to have previous experience or need to be in shape, and you don’t need to be flexible or anything else to get started.

We all make promises to improve ourselves at the beginning of each New Year. It has become quite a part of our New Year celebration and 2012 is not going to be an exception.

Although 2011 is still in progress, it is not too early to look forward to 2012. At least we can plan ahead on how we are going to improve ourselves in the next year.

How to make a New Year resolution

Although many of us make a New Year resolution at the beginning of a New Year but we do it more out of a custom than with actual planning. Also, people don’t spare much thought in finding out what he/she will actually like to achieve in the year. Hence, the success rate with New Year resolution is actually poor. Some tips therefore can become handy in making your New Year resolution a success.

Fix your target: What is really important to you? What do you want to achieve in the coming days? Setting your priorities will help you set your New Year’s resolution better.

Make a realistic promise: When we promise, we promise big, without really considering the possibilities of achieving it at the end. This is one of the major causes of higher failure rate with New Year’s resolutions. Hence, make yourself a realistic promise.

Make an optimistic promise: Try and look at the positive side of the promise. Leave the negative ideas aside. Hence, instead of saying that ‘I’ll not be late at my appointments’ say ‘henceforth, I’ll reach everywhere in time’. The positive tone will help you improve your chances of success.

Break down big goals: If you have promised yourself a big thing set small targets at first. Instead of looking at the mammoth task on the whole, taking small steps towards achieving it will help you to reach the target easily.

Develop other habit: We all know that some habits are hard to change. Hence, the best way to change an old habit is by developing other engagement. If you have decided to quit smoking, find another engagement which will relax you and will take your mind away from smoking.

For the record, the cover wasn’t rehearsed and in a split second magic happened and Lauren was there to capture it on film in one shot.

Here is the back of the card, and again nothing was pre though, it was just a moment in time that was caught on film, I hugged Sifu Anthony and was laughing because I had just swept Santa to the ground. It was all in good fun.

Last night U.M.A.C. in Danvers hosted ‘The Polar Express” where 79 1/2 people (little Brooke isn’t even 2 yet) were in attendance. Students came to the studio in their pajamas with pillows and blankets to watch the movie. The Staff served Hot Chocolate & Sugar cookies during the movie. Thank you to everyone for coming out and making the event a huge success!

WINTER WISH TOY GIFT DRIVE
The annual Winter Wish gift drive at the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corps helps ensure that every child in our care is provided with at least one gift for the winter holidays. We will be collecting toys and games here at UMAC until Wednesday December 14th.

Ways to get involved:
- Purchase an individual gift card or gift valued at no more than $25. (Please do not wrap your gift and make sure to label your gift so that we know who has made the donation.)
- Host a Winter Wish gift drive, start a gift card challenge, or plan a fundraiser.
- Enlist your company and/or co-workers to “adopt” one of our programs and provide a program project. (Providing a sensory room, purchasing materials for a science lab, or equipping an indoor recreation room.)
